As is to be expected, the time of year we tend to encounter problems with boilers the most, is winter, which is also the time of year that they are most needed. It isn’t ideal to have to go a period of time without a boiler during these cold months, however due to the high demand for new boilers in winter, this is generally the case. Boilers have an average lifespan of around 10-15 years, so if you know this is the sort of age bracket that yours falls into, you should consider getting a replacement and doing so now, in summer, rather than waiting until winter. This will ensure a reliable boiler to keep your home warm this winter.
Now that summer is upon is, the last thing on people’s minds is getting a new boiler, however this is the perfect time to do it. If you wait until winter, you can encounter all kinds of problems, so we wanted to let you know about some of the benefits of getting your boiler replaced sooner rather than later…
Firstly, you need to know what sort of condition your boiler is in – how old is it? Does it heat up as quickly as it’s supposed to? Have you noticed any problems with it or unusual noises? The most obvious way to tell whether or not your boiler is working properly, is to turn on the central heating and see if it works. However, as this isn’t necessary all year round, some people only notice a problem when they have their heater switched on during winter. This is pretty inconvenient as it means the problem is discovered during a time when you need your boiler the most, and it means having to wait to get it fixed or replaced depending on the extent of the fault.
During winter especially, your boiler is quite a crucial part of your home. Aside from needing a reliable and fully-functioning boiler to keep you and your family warm at home, experiencing issues with your boiler can also sometimes present dangers and leave you with problems, including increased heating bills.
Generally, people will try to avoid having to buy a new boiler for their home, and instead will opt for repairs. Sometimes this is completely fine and will fix the problem and have your boiler working as good as new, however, if your boiler is getting quite old for example and you have been experiencing problems with it, the most cost effective and reliable option would probably be to get a new boiler. Boilers have an average lifespan whereby they will need to be replaced after so long, usually between 10-15 years. So, if your boiler was around this old, it would be more beneficial to you to buy a brand new boiler than to pay a lot of money for a big repair when you would still have to replace it a few years later.
Unsurprisingly, the demand for new boilers is much higher in winter than it is in summer, therefore making it much easier and more convenient to get a new boiler now rather than wait until winter. Furthermore, because of the smaller demand in summer, you will often find that installation costs are less, whereas these tend to surge in winter when the demand rises. You will also find that boiler engineers are a lot less busy during summer, which means you would be able to get a new boiler fitted at a much more convenient time for you as opposed to in winter when they are all booked up.
As we have established, winter is the worst possible time to have to go without a boiler. Whereas if you get a new boiler now, you have more time to choose the one you want and won’t be at any kind of disadvantage whilst you are waiting for it to be fitted. Getting it done in summer when central heating isn’t required means you won’t have to suffer in any way whereas if you waited until winter when it’s very cold this would cause problems for you.
New and modern boilers tend to be much more efficient on the energy they use. This means that if you get a new boiler now ready for winter, your bills will be lower as less energy will be used to heat up your home. A lot of new boilers can help you save up to hundreds of pounds each year. Furthermore, having a new boiler fitted now means that you are at a much lower risk of facing any problems during winter!
